Girls Rock! DC is a fabulous local org that uses music education to build self-confidence in girls ages 8-18. The group’s second annual camp session culminates this Saturday, August 15 in a showcase performance at the 9:30 Club at 10:30am. Click

Playing for Change: Peace Through Music

I came across this on Mrs. Tulip’s blog this morning and had to pass it along. Musicians around the world added to a recording of “Stand by Me” – all part of a worldwide collaborative effort, “Playing for Change,” which uses music to build schools, connect students, and inspire communities in need through music.

Bowls of Compassion for DC’s Homeless

Miriam’s Kitchen provides healthy meals and other services to the sizable homeless population in downtown DC (Michelle Obama helped raise the org’s profile with a visit there last month). They apparently generate the bulk of their revenue from their annual 100 Bowls of Compassion gala, and have put together a clever campaign to raise the event’s visibility. In their own words:
