DC Celebrates Obama's Victory

This only captures the celebrations in the U Street area - I'll add links to other photos and videos from around the city as I find them.

What an awesome, awesome night. I truly feel lighter today, and more hopeful...like despite our differences, there are in fact some common values that unite at least a majority of us. And I believe that President Obama will win over many Americans who may not have voted for him, but will see that he cares about them and their needs - he's not just interested in serving his supporters (unlike a certain shrub of a President we've had for the past 8 years....)

Don't worry, I'm not turning this into a politics blog. But if I'm going to write about creativity in the nation's capital, it's impossible not to note the jolt of energy and hope that Obama's victory has given to so many of us. He's helping to fuel some incredible creativity to come.

Added 11.6.08: Check out Huffington Post's detailed account of DC celebrating Obama's victory on the night of the election. They quote DCist's Somner Mathis saying, "This wasn't the kind of aggressive crowd a big city can sometimes get in the aftermath of a major sports championship. Washington was joyous. In those early morning hours, there was nothing but love between neighbors. At the very site of the worst of the 1968 riots, there was dancing instead."

I'm glad for you, I guess. At least now you won't have to change the name to "'Creative' Hate."

Here's someone else to hate, from the WSJ:

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Mr. Shapiro is an investigative reporter and lawyer who previously interned with John F. Kerry's legal team during the presidential election in 2004.

Hm, anonymous, I don't understand your post. I'm definitely not a hater! Also, can you send the link for the WSJ quote/article? I'm not understanding it well out of context.
