Reboot

View of palm trees in Vieques, Puerto RicoI just got back from vacation - from the best vacation I can remember ever taking. It was a true escape, not just a geographic journey or an immersion in someplace new, but a leaving behind of all the junk that had been building up over months of stress; a letting go, a resetting of myself. I turned to my husband on our last day there - "there" being Vieques, Puerto Rico (yes, I made it there! to those of you who remember my fantasizing) - and said, "I feel like I got younger on this trip." It's true. I'd been feeling old, for some reason, just - old. Dragging myself around. Not depressed, but - worn out, used up. I needed a reboot.

And speaking of reboots, I gave myself the gift of what some people call a "technology sabbath" - no computer, no Internet, and only one or two cell phone calls for an entire week (calls to dads on Father's Day, and to schedule a snorkeling trip). Oh, it was glorious. I realized how much I didn't miss being online, and how much time I waste there (here). I also realized how much I miss writing for this blog - in the past six months or so, I let life get too busy. I preach that your life is your art, and each day is your canvas (your time is the paint), and on this vacation, I recommitted myself to practicing what I preach.

So stay tuned, you'll be hearing a lot more from Creative DC. :)

PR has never been on my list of places to visit, but after having heard from people who've gone in recent years, my interest is piqued. What's more appealing is the idea of a "technology sabbath." It's really stupid anymore that we can be reached - or allow ourselves to be reached - on vacation. 15 or 20 years ago, that was unheard of ... at least in the circles I grew up in.

Oh! And NPR did a travel piece the other day about the phosphorescent surf life in Vieques. I only heard the teaser, but it intrigued me. I love phosphorescence!
