Mapping DC neighborhoods to NYC?

by Amanda on September 16, 2009

So here’s a question: do you think you could map DC neighborhoods to neighborhoods in NYC?

For example: is Adams Morgan like the Village? Mount Pleasant, Park Slope?

I ask because I came across this “San Francisco guide to New York,” and I wondered how DC’ers would feel about making similar comparisons.

‘Just curious…

So is Georgetown the Upper East Side? And Annacostia is somewhere in the Bronx? Where is Williamsburg in DC? And who gets to be Jersey… Baltimore?

Georgetown : Upper East Side makes sense to me…

Sean, on one level I completely agree – and think it’s a silly exercise. On the other hand, I think comparisons like Gtown/UES really work, and it’s sort of interesting to see how very different cities form similar enclaves…

I don’t know, I’m still on the fence. I was (am!) just curious about what kinds of comparisons people would draw…

Dan, cool link! But that site says Midtown is like Kalorama…. which is ridic. And it compares the Financial District to Columbia Heights… not sure the people who put it together know DC very well!!

Yes – absolutely!!! Not for all neighborhoods, though certainly for some. I would say Foggy Bottom reminds me of the Upper West Side. Georgetown of the Upper East Side. Adams Morgan and the East Village. U Street and Morningside Heights.
Having lived in both cities, these are the immediate ones that came to mind. Have you picked a place to live in NYC yet?
