My friend Libby co-hosts the monthly Kostume Karaoke event at Solly’s, something I’ve been meaning to write about for ages; when I saw that this month’s festivities will feature a “Michael Jackson Retrospective” theme, I knew it was time to give Kostume Karaoke its moment in the Creative DC spotlight (such as it were).
More details from the hosts:
“…We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the great debt that karaoke owes to the King of Pop.
…No, we will not be singing Michael Jackson all night long. But at 10:30, we will have a little Michael Jackson tributefest, for those of you who would like to participate. Impersonations are welcome, but not required. MJ left us such a wide range of great music, and it is ripe for the re-imagining…
If you want to come dressed up as your favorite incarnation of MJ, so much the better; for say what you want about the man – he knew how to rock a costume.”
The Post calls Kostume Karaoke “the city’s weirdest, kitschiest karaoke event.” So “beat it” on over to Solly’s (11th and U Streets NW) this Wednesday night – singing starts at 8, and the MJ love starts at 10:30.
