1. Get Thee to Artomatic – Explore an office building filled to the brim with art. Ticket price: $0. (Closes July 5)
2. See the Seagull - Theater J is offering $15 tickets on Wednesday and Thursday nights to its production of The Seagull on 16th Street — just use the code “Dupont” when buying tix (in advance or at the door).
3. Give Props to Pepe - Awesome local artists Sean Hennessey and Rania Hassan are on the creative team behind Pepe! The Mail Order Monkey Musical. This one-act, Broadway-style musical, part of the Capital Fringe Festival, is “based on an infamous true tale told by renowned glass artist Tim Tate: in the spring of 1968, two young brothers test suburban conventions when they order a live monkey from an ad in a comic book.” Tix are $15. (See also: free Fringe preview, tonight at RFD)
4. Visit the Underworld – My Twitter buddy David Loehr wrote The Rough Guide to the Underworld, now playing at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Tix are just $10, and the show sounds like a creative headtrip…”the Neo-Futurists meet neo-classicism. With Mamet jokes.” (If you haven’t heard of the Neo-Futurists – they are awesome.)
5. Savor Your Saturdays – …with free access to the Corcoran Gallery of Art. That’s right – free “Summer Saturdays” through the end of August. Current exhibits include the very cool color photography of William Eggleston, plus new work by Maya Lin exploring our relationship with nature.
And, of course, I’d be remiss not to mention that our very own Smithsonian is always free. Free, I tells ya!
