Howdy folks! Welcome to alliteration Friday. I found myself IM’ing Jordan this morning with link after link to cool gallery event this Saturday night, at which point, I realized I had myself a blog post (and at which point he said, “shouldn’t you be blogging about this?”). So here we go:
Street/Studio Opening Reception and Alley Block Party
What: Explore how artists use the street/urban space as an extension of their studios, and vice versa: how they bring influences from the street into the studio. (I learned about this exhibit at the Beautiful Losers screening last week.) Featured artists include Shephard Fairey and Gaia. The party will feature live music by DJs Iona Rozeal Brown and Jahsonic. New wall murals and installations by the artists will be on view.
When: 6-11pm (exhibit runs through August 1)
Where: The alley behind the Irvine Contemporary gallery, 14th and P Streets, NW
RIPPLE: Art Affecting Oceans
What: A celebration of art and the ocean, featuring skate and surf art, music, wine and beer, food, and a silent auction. Proceeds will go directly to DC Surfrider to help keep our waters clean.
When: 8pm – midnight
Where: WVSA ARTiculate Gallery, 1100 16th Street, NW
Tix: $15 in advance, $20 at the door (click here to buy tix in advance)
NOT FROM CONCENTRATE: A Juicy Art Exhibit
What: Enjoy work by local artists Chanan Delivuk, whose art explores veganism, and photographer Joshua Yospyn – plus music by DJ Anish, drinks, and “vegan treats,” hosted by the Pink Line Project (who knows how to throw a party).
When: 6-8pm
Where: Hounshell Real Estate, 1506 14th Street, NW (just down the street from the Street/Studio event, above)
