Oscar-related Screenings

by Amanda on February 2, 2008

I was reading the Post’s Weekend section this morning (which I can’t find online, hence the lack of a link) and noticed that several area theaters are offering Oscar-related screenings.

  • On February 23 (the day before the Big Event), you can watch all 5 “Best Picture” nominees back to back at few different AMC theaters (Owings Mills, Rio in Gaithersburg, Hoffmann in Alexandria and Potomac Mills – Ikea and a movie, anyone?). The screenings start at 11am and cost $30, which includes a big ol’ popcorn with free refills.
  • Even better news, in my opinion, is that you have 2 opportunities to watch all the nominated short films. Landmark E Street will be screening them starting Feb. 15, as will the National Archives, for free, from Feb. 20-24. The Archives is also showing all the nominated documentaries – also for free.

(I often think the best films are in this category. In related news, check out this year’s DC Shorts Film Festival, starting next Friday, Feb. 8.)

  • For all you foreign language film fans, Nat Geo is screening all the nominees in this category Feb. 14-17 – $7 each, or $25 for all five.

Apologies to the Post for essentially recreating the sidebar on page 27 of this week’s Weekend section, but again, I couldn’t find it online.
