We're volunteering for the Wisconsin Film Fest out here, and are surprised to hear about a spate of sold out shows. Last year, the majority of shows sold out. I'm a bit surprised to infer that Madison has a more active film community than DC. My guess would be the prevalance of the University of Wisc is a big factor, but it's not like DC lacks big schools either. Weird. Wonder why some of these take off and some don't?

Actually... maybe it's just too many festivals? Filmfest DC is next month. I think they've got different thrusts (international vs. independent), but they may really just be cannibalizing each other's audiences.

On the "smaller town, but better festival" from, I remember Philly having a much better fringe fest than NY, which was always surprising, and if DC had a fringefest, I never heard about it. Interesting.

I loved that Sutherland fellow ever since I saw him drive that tank for Clint Eastwood, Don Rickles and Tellie Savalis.

But I digress.

Did you ever find out where the other half of the people you know were last weekend? THAT would be interesting, too!

Smiles and best - JEMahoney
