There are a variety of small things that help (a tiny bit). For example, consider a tankless water heater for your home at some point. Tankless heaters are good for homes with only a few people - the heaters heat the water as it goes through the system, eliminating the need for a giant tank of constantly hot water.

Make sure your house is well insulated - don't let your heat or A/C escape.

Wash your clothes in cold water instead of hot. Check your current water heater - you can adjust the temperature lower. These things use less natural gas (or electricity - depends on how your house is heated).

Switch to wind power. Pepco offers you a choice, but you'll see the difference in your bill.

Check here for lots of stuff for your home and life:
http://www.earthshare.com/get_involved/earth_saving_tips.html

The most important thing you can do is work to change the political system. Help elect candidates who support the environment. Support environmental organizations, as they are the ones who are fighting for change every day.

- dbh
